Special Services

Patron eligibility requirements for different services vary. If you have questions about Special Services, including registration for services, please contact the Special Services Library Associate: Rita Titlow at 630-961-4100, ext. 6343.

Library Services
  • Home Delivery Service
    This service is available for patrons unable to visit the library. Materials selection, delivery, and pick up are available to individuals and institutional patrons.

  • Individualized Reading Lists for Large Type, Books-On-CD, and Books-On-Tape
    Based upon individual reading interests.

  • Library Service for the Blind & Physically Handicapped and Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic

    • These programs made available by government and nonprofit organizations, provide Braille and recorded editions of fiction and nonfiction books and magazines, also recorded editions of textbook and technical materials. Materials and equipment are mailed postage-free to users' homes.

    • Naperville is served by the Voices of Vision Sub-regional Library

    • Web-Braille Books

  • News-line Network
    A digitized reading by phone of local and national newspapers: Chicago Tribune, Daily Herald, New York Times, USA Today. For further information and registration, contact Voices of Vision at 1-800-227-0625.

Assistive Technology & Equipment
  • 1 computers with Adaptive Software at Nichols:

    • A computer monitor that can display larger font type.

    • 3 Speech Output programs:

      • JAWS Professional - Screen Reading Software

      • MAGic Professional - Screen Magnification with Speech

      • OpenBook 6.0 - Scanning and Reading Software

    • Each computer is connected to a scanner. 

    • There is no charge for computer use, but there is a fee of 10 cents/page for Black and White and 25 cents/page for color printing. 

    • Disks are available for purchase for $1.00 each. CD is $2.00 each.

    • Lab use is available to all Naperville Public Library cardholders and to all registered reciprocal borrowers. Use may be limited to 3 hours of computer time per day Monday through Saturday and 1 ½ hours of computer time on Sunday on computers with Internet access.

  • CCTVs that magnify print - Available for in-house use and loan.

  • Personal amplification systems.

  • TTY at Nichols.

  • Wheelchair for on-site use.

  • Wheelchair-accessible computer catalog station.
