Teacher Hand Book

The Naperville Public Libraries provide services to all schools within the city limits.

All teachers who teach within the Naperville Public Libraries service area are entitled to the services outlined in this handbook. Please note, however, that a Naperville Public Libraries card or a registered reciprocal borrower card is necessary to check out materials. Contact Patron Registration to inquire about library cards.

These services include:

  • Library visits and tours.

  • Class visits by staff of the Naperville Public Libraries.
Presentations or materials for in-service meetings, Institute Days, or Open House events.
Please provide two weeks advance notice to schedule tours or visits.

  • Reader's Advisory services include "Bestseller Lists" on our computer catalog, booklists, and bibliographies.

  • Teachers Requests service enables teachers to request up to ten items per topic/author for classroom/group use, by sending a Teacher Request Form.
Please provide seven days advance notice.

  • Assignment Alert service ensures that books in high demand are placed on "Building Use Only" status. Teachers may utilize this service by sending an Assignment Alert Form.
Please provide three weeks advance notice. A copy of the assignment helps us find the most appropriate materials for you.

Young Adult Collection

The young adult collection offers a variety of materials and resources for students and teachers. Our print collection consists of teen fiction, nonfiction, reference materials, and magazines. Audiovisual resources from the adult and young adult collections include eBooks, books-on-tape, books-on-CD, DVDs, videocassettes, and CDs that can be used to supplement print sources. Career and college information is also available. Our "Science Fair Project" services include a core collection of science fair books that remain in the Library at all times and an annotated Science Fair bibliography. Internet access and applications software are provided in our Computer Lab. Parents are required to sign an Internet User's Agreement for children under the age of 18.

We also offer access to many full-text online databases 24/7, including Live Homework Help, available between 4pm and 9pm daily.
