4-8 Grade
  • American Mathematics Contest 8 (AMC 8, formerly AJHSME) - Promote interest in mathematics and problem solving ability.
  • The Craftsman/NSTA Young Inventors Awards Program (2-8 Grade) - "Challenges students to use creativity and imagination along with science, technology, and mechanical ability to invent or modify a tool".
  • ExploraVision Awards (K-12 Grade) - "Encourage students to combine their imaginations with the tools of science to create and explore a vision of a future technology."
  • Future Problem Solving Program - Teaches students creative problem solving techniques. Under the guidance of teacher/coaches, teams of students in grades 4-12 explore real-world societal problems and propose action plans to address them.
  • Illinois Science Olympiad - A hands-on science competition for students in grades 6-12. The Olympiad format comprises designated project challenges in various scientific and technology disciplines.
  • Math Counts
  • National Geography Bee - This competition is sponsored by the National Geographic Society, and aims to spark students' (grades 4-8) interest in world geography. The top 3 winners receives $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000 in college scholarships respectively. Sample its daily challenge.
  • ThinkQuest Internet Challenge  - Teachers can enroll now to coach teams of 3 to 6 students, ages 9 to 19. Teams compete in 3 age divisions: 12 and under, 15 and under, or 19 and under. Teams have 6 months to build a website on any topic within one of the official competition categories.

  • American Mathematics Competitions - Promote interest in mathematics and problem solving ability through a series of mathematics contests for junior (grades 8 and below) and senior high school students (grades 9-12).
  • American Mathematics Contest 10 (AMC 10, formerly AJHSME) - Promote interest in mathematics and problem solving ability.
  • American Mathematics Contest 12 (AMC 12, formerly AJHSME) - Promote interest in mathematics and problem solving ability.
  • American Computer Science League

  • FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotic Competition - Students team up with engineers and academics to brainstorm, design, construct and test their "champion robot" in six weeks. The teams then compete in a spirited, no-holds-barred tournament.

  • INTEL Science Talent Search - A highly competitive science competition for high school students. Scholarship and awards total more than 1 million dollars for students and their schools.
  • International Mathematic Talent Search - A competitive year-round correspondence program in creative mathematical problem solving at the secondary school level. It is open to all students in every country at no cost. 
  • The International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) - An annual competition in the discipline of informatics (computing science) for senior pupils at secondary schools all over the world.
  • Odyssey of the Mind
  • Siemens Awards for Advance Placement - Each fall, the top AP students in grades 10, 11 and 12 in each of six regions are awarded scholarships. These regional honors go to the students who have scored highest on the greatest number of AP exams in seven AP courses - Biology, Chemistry, Calculus BC, Computer Science AB, Physics C Mechanics, Physics C Electricity and Magnetism, Environmental Science and Statistics.
  • Siemens Westinghouse Science & Technology Competition - Chance to win a $100,000 scholarship and receive national recognition for science research projects.

  • USA Mathematic Talent Search - Four rounds, each round features five problems. Problems are published on the USAMTS web site, high school students have 4 weeks to submit solutions to at least two of the problems of each round. They can earn 5 points for the complete, well- written solution of each problem, and hence can accumulate 100 points during the school year.
  • USACO Internet Contest - Conduct three Internet-hosted contests: the USOpen, the summer training camp and Finals  to foster competition, recognize outstanding performance, and increase the level of expertise of pre-college programmers. Emphasizes individual competition and programming. Each contest has two divisions; National, and International.
