Stretch Out Your Summer,
Enjoy a Daytime Book Group at the Library

Take some time to relax this summer with an adult book discussion group. During June, July and August the New Horizons Book Discussion Group will meet the third Thursday of every month at 10:30 a.m. in the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center lounge, 305 W. Jackson Ave. Facilitating this group is Julie Phend. This book group is a partnership of the Naperville Public Library and the Naperville Park District.

"Blessings” by Anna Quindlen is the title for the Thursday, July 17 meeting. “NoveList” summarizes the plot as “When a baby is left on their doorstep, the lives of Lydia Blessing, the elderly town matriarch, and Skip, her down-and-out caretaker, are transformed. Skip wants to keep the baby and raise it himself. To his surprise, Lydia wants to help. Together, they decide to keep the baby a secret between them. In the process, we discover that they have secrets of their own.”

Jhumpa Lahiri’s classic, “The Namesake” will be discussed on Thursday, August 21. This portrait of an Indian family’s immigrant experience showcases the clashes between generations and the sometimes difficult transitions in adapting to the American way of life.
