Need an idea of what to read? Book Clubs provide a suggestion AND a lively discussion once you've finished the story! Here are the titles for the August clubs meeting at Nichols.

On Thursday, August 21st at 7:00 p.m. we'll be discussing The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. In this novel, young Daniel is given the task to preserve a volume from the Cemetery of Forgotten Books, but he discovers that all the copies of books by his author are being found and destroyed. The history of the Spanish Civil War and Franco's Fascism combined with a fantastical mystery make for an absorbing story and fodder for great conversation!

On Tuesday, August 26th at 10:30 a.m. we'll meet to talk about Travels with Charley, John Steinbeck's memoir of traveling across America with his dog. It's a study of American culture, a man's self-exploration, a pet-owner's journey with his canine friend, and an overall inspiring travel tale that will encourage discussion. (One question to get you thinking: since Steinbeck was a novelist, how much of this story do you feel is fabricated and how much is accurate to life?)

Both clubs meet in the Nichols Library Lower Level Board Room. See you there!
