Card Playing Day is three days after Christmas Day, December 28, and what a perfect time to slow down, relax, pick up a deck or two of playing cards and spend actual face-to-face time with your family. Even the younger kids can join in!

Share your own "card sharp" abilities with your children. Start with simple games like War, Go FIsh, and graduate to Crazy Eights, Old Maid, Hearts and Gin Rummy, to name but a few. As they play, kids learn numbers, patterns, addition, colors, sorting, and strategy. The extra bonus: nothing needs to be plugged in, or charged with a power cord, when you play card games.

You don't need an X-box to entertain your kids, and you don't need a power outage to sample and enjoy all the different games you can play with a deck of 52 playing cards.
