As the weather chills, let your hearts warm to those less fortunate than us - but don't forget the puppies (and kitties)! If you've got a pet at home, or even if you enjoy our Bark for Books program here at the Library, you've already got a soft spot for our furry companions. So do them a favor this winter and help the Naperville Area Humane Society during our food and supply drive!
Starting Friday, November 1, look for donation cans inside the entryways of all three Naperville Public Library buildings. Any unopened pet food or lightly-used supplies are appreciated, or just read the list of requested items on the cans. We will continue to accept donations until Friday, November 8, and grateful dogs and cats will receive your generous gifts on Monday, November 11. Anything given earns you good karma only - the Library is not forgiving fines during this program.
The Naperville Area Humane Society is already a community partner of the Library, offering us dog buddies for our Bark for Books program and sending those same dogs to read with Naperville area school kids. Pet owners benefit, too, with humane education classes from NAHS at the Library and at their facility. Their first priority is finding homes for these animals, and they manage to find families for approximately 1000 dogs and cats each year.
Don't make a dog beg for it! Bring in that extra bag of kibble or that over-sized leash, and make a dog's (or cat's) day!
