Join us at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, at the Nichols Library at  for a free screening of 12 Years A Slave, winner of the 2014 Academy Award® for Best Picture. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Lupita Nyong'o (Best Supporting Actress), the film by acclaimed director Steve McQueen was adapted from the autobiography of Solomon Northrup.

Th12yearsdvde harrowing account of a black man, born free in New York State, who was drugged, kidnapped, and sold into slavery in 1841. Having no way to contact his family, and fearing for his life if he told the truth, Solomon Northup was sold from plantation to plantation in Louisiana, toiling under cruel masters for twelve years before meeting Samuel Bass, a Canadian who finally put him in touch with his family, and helped start the process to regain his freedom.*

This film is rated R for violence/cruelty, some  nudity and brief sexuality. No one under the age of 18 will be admitted to R-rated films without a parent or guardian.
