It's hard to believe that the school year is once again screeching to an end. So what are parents going to do to keep their children happily busy all summer long? Here are a few ideas that are sure to help you out.
In Naperville we are fortunate to have many resources right at our fingertips. Most locals already know about Centennial Beach but if you are new to Naperville and aren't lucky enough to have a pool right in your own backyard it's worth checking out. It's part beach, part water park, part old-timey swimming hole. There's some sand, open water, diving boards, slides and floating docks. The Naperville Park District also offers swimming lessons.
Don't like to swim? There are other suburban venues that are either low cost or are free such as Blackberry Farm and Phillips Park both in Aurora. Cosley Zoo in Wheaton is also an affordable option. Enjoy sprawling grounds to help your family stretch their legs? Both Cantigny and Morton Arboretum offer that and more. Attend one of their summer concerts or family nights this summer, it's great fun for families.
You could relive the good old days by taking the kids to the Cascade Drive-In in West Chicago where often the first movie of the evening is kid friendly. Or spend a day in the country watching pig and pony races at the DuPage County Fair. The fair runs from July 24-28 at the DuPage County Fairgrounds.
Treat your family to some of the tastiest produce and bakery items available by coming out to the Naperville Farmers Market on Saturday mornings all summer long at 5th Avenue Station. The market is open from 7:00 a.m. to noon and runs from June through October.
Besides the delicious ribs, the Naperville Exchange Club's Ribfest has loads of fun activities to help you celebrate the entire week leading up to the 4th of July. This year's event runs from July 3-7.
Put on by the Naperville Jaycees, The Last Fling signals the end of summer fun but I would be amiss if I did not mention it here. The event has similar attractions to Ribfest but is more carnival-like in nature. This event takes place August 30 through Sept 2.
If you are a Naperville Public Library cardholder we can also help you out with one of our Museum Adventure Passes. The passes can offer you savings at some pretty wonderful attractions. Passes include Air Classics Inc. Museum of Aviation, Brookfield Zoo, Cantigny Park, Chicago Botanic Garden, Legoland Discovery Center, and Naper Settlement which is right here in beautiful downtown Naperville. Naperville Public Library cardholders can check out a pass at the Children's Services Desk at any one of our three buildings. While you are here make sure to join our Summer Reading Program which is fun for the entire family. There are great prizes and coupons to enhance your summer days.
So what are you waiting for? Grab your calendars and begin planning out your summer time adventures.
