Here in the children’s department, we LOVE finding and making cute crafts. So…I couldn’t resist making and sharing this walrus craft. I found the idea for this adorable walrus on a blog that is accessible through this link: http://frogstofairydustchildcare.blogspot.com/.

After you’re done making this walrus, check out the cute walrus fingerplay at the bottom. I promise…it’s fun to say together, and it’s fun to act out together! Enjoy!

You will need:   -One piece each of white, brown, and black paper
-Brown yarn (or you can always draw the whiskers in)
                       -Black marker
-2 google eyes (or you can always draw them in)

1.) Take the brown paper and cut out one big circle and two smaller circles. These will be the body, head, and flippers of the walrus.
2.) Using the white paper, draw two small white tusks. You can judge the size based on one of the small circles you already have cut out.

3.) Cut out the white tusks, and cut one of the small circles in half. These two pieces become the flippers.

4.) Take the bottom of the white paper and draw a wavy line at the bottom to make the snow. Cut out the snow.

5.) Cut the black paper in half and glue the items in this order:  “snow”; the body; the head; and the flippers.
6.) Glue on the google eyes or draw them on.

7.) Draw the nose and mouth of the walrus, and add some walrus whiskers.

8.) I added stars and a top hat to make a fancy walrus, but you can feel free to add any accessories you want to your walrus!

I Wish I Were a Walrus
I wish I were a Walrus
A waddling on the shore
I'd say, "Move over, Here I come!"
And bellow out a "ROAR!" (stretch up tall and stretch out arms wide)

I wish I were a Walrus
A basking in the sun.
I'd flap my flippers, oh so loud
To show I'm number one!     (flap your arms)

I wish I were a Walrus
A strutting all my stuff.
If anybody picked on me
I'd show them my big tusks!  (pretend your arms are tusks)
