The short, winter nights when the sun sets early makes it hard to exercise outside. Driving home from work, the dark sky makes me want to stay inside. However, I know I need to get motivated to hit the gym or a local recreation center.
Thankfully, Naperville Park District is taking steps to get community members out of the house and find inspiration to exercise. Expected to be completed by fall 2016, the Naperville Park District Activity Center will be located at 1760 Quincy Ave., Naperville.
The center will provide the community with year-round indoor recreation activities, sports as well as fitness and wellness programs. Gymnasium space, indoor fitness space and an indoor walking and running track are features that take top priority for the center’s design.
Community members can provide input on the design of the center, including what kind of amenities they would like to see showcased. A public open house will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at rooms B and C at Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St., Naperville. During these bone-chilling days, I would love to run outside. However, the next best thing would be to run on an indoor track--where it’s warm and there are like-minded fitness comrades.
