Planning your Spring Break vacation? Start gathering your reading material early. The Children’s Department staff love to make recommendations! We will create a Personal Reading List for readers through 5th grade. Just fill out the online form on our website on the Kids’ page under Find a Good Read. We can also gather materials for you to take on vacation (or for your staycation) - books, books on CD, DVDs, CDs – via the Family Reading Service.
If you want to look for book suggestions on your own, browse the many lists on the Kids’ page under Find a Good Read – Booklists by Staff. We have lists for all ages.
Here are some suggestions for pre-readers:
Try the Scaredy Squirrel books by Melanie Watt. Scaredy Squirrel is afraid to venture beyond his own tree, but in each book his humorous adventures take him beyond his comfort zone.
If you like a little math with your picture books, try the Mouse Math series by Eleanor May in which mouse siblings Wanda and Albert have math adventures at home, school, the playground, and the library.
In the mood for humor? Check out a couple of my favorite picture book authors, Robert Munsch and Margie Palatini.
Are you a fan of technology? Naperville library cardholders can check out eBooks and eAudiobooks from the library. Just go to the library’s website and click on eBook/eAudio to get to the Downloadable Catalog.
You can also access Tumble Books on the library’s website no matter where you are. The TumbleBook Library is ipad and android compatible. Just log in with your NPL library card and PIN to read and/or listen to always available picture books, nonfiction books, and a small selection of readers and chapter books, as well as play games or do puzzles. Over ten of Robert Munsch’s books are on Tumble Books!
Safe travels and happy reading!
