Does your child have a closet full of costume-like clothes? If so, you just might have a superhero or princess living in your house.
When my boys were young they both really loved wearing their superhero pajamas but it was my youngest that wanted to wear them all day long and never take them off. So what can a parent do to foster their child’s love of role-playing but maintain some sense of realism? Well you’re in luck because there are so many choices today!
I know of many young families that have a dress up box. The box is stocked with Halloween clearance items and thrift store finds and hats, lots of hats! Hats and headbands are such an easy way for your child to accessorize and just like you they can wear many hats. You can go the traditional route with tiaras, cowboy, firefighter or you can even adopt one of those cute animal hats that are everywhere right now. So you are in luck if your child has a favorite animal creature this year. Superhero t-shirts can be found fairly easily these days at many stores and some even come with detachable capes! I’ve even seen some superhero and dinosaur hooded sweatshirts. So let’s say you are the creative type like me and you want to fashion your own accessories for your child.
It’s very easy to please a princess or ballerina with a tutu or fairy skirt that fits over any outfit. You can find so many tutorials on the internet for these but I have selected a couple of my favorites, one “no sew” and one “sewing required” for the adventurous. Here’s a link for a super cute princess damsel hat.
Not every superhero wears a cape but I’m thinking that maybe they should! I know I’d want to wear one! Here are a couple of tutorials for constructing your very own superhero cape one “no sew” and one “sewing required”. It would be so fun to create your very own superhero persona and design your own insignia. Capes are great because like a tutu they can be worn over everyday clothing.
