It’s wedding season! You have already started "planning" your dream wedding on Pinterest, now use the Naperville Public Library to make it a reality. The library may not be an obvious choice for help in wedding preparation, but we have myriad resources available for brides and grooms-to-be – as well as their family, friends, and wedding guests.
NPL has a wide selection of wedding book resources, ranging from do-it-yourself and planning on a budget to thank-you guides to décor ideas and self-help (when planning feels overwhelming). Other popular titles include The Everything Wedding Book: Your All-in-One Guide to Planning the Wedding of Your Dreams; The Bridal Bible: Inspiration for Planning Your Perfect Wedding; Wedding Planning Made Easy; and many others.
We also have materials targeted to the future grooms, including The Ultimate Groom’s Guide; Well Groomed: A Wedding Planner for What’s His Name (and His Bride); The Engaged Groom: You’re Getting Married, Read This Book; and Be the Man: The Man Registry Guide for Grooms.
And, sometimes, the wedding party and guests need a little help of their own. There are resources for mothers of brides and grooms, including The Everything Mother of the Bride Book: A Survival Guide for Mom! and Mother of the Groom: Everything You Need to Know to Enjoy the Best Wedding Ever; and books for the fathers as well: The Everything Father of the Bride Book: A Survival Guide for Dad! Looking for ideas for the perfect toast? Check out Wedding Words: Toasts or The Complete Book of Wedding Toasts.
For those that are more visual, the Naperville Public Library’s DVD collection offers some wedding preparation materials. During the planning stages, you might like I Do: Do it Yourself Wedding Planning or Martha’s Complete Weddings. Those with two left feet, or those looking to brush up on their ballroom dancing, might be interested in Wedding Dances or Wedding Day Dancing, which includes a dance list of 137 love songs.
If you need help finding vendors, or are looking to narrow your list, be sure to utilize AtoZDatabases, part of our free online resource collection. AtoZ is a reference, job search, and mailing list database. NPL cardholders can use AtoZ to get complete business profiles. To aid in your wedding planning, you can search for vendors by company name or location and industry keywords, such as wedding florists or wedding planners.
NPL cardholders also have access to our online magazine collection. The wedding-minded might find the Gale Tourism, Hospitality & Leisure Collection especially helpful. You can use this resource to search by article topics or publication titles, including Brides Magazine and Modern Bride.
