Because I know that you, dear blog reader, are a lover of reading (and likely libraries), I bet you have had fantasies about writing.  Yeah, go ahead and admit it.  I'll confess that I have.  I even majored in Creative Writing in college.  Now I work in a world-class library devouring and discussing great writing on a daily basis.  It may not be universal knowledge that I once nursed fantasies about being a novelist, but I'm also not ashamed to admit it to fellow readers and library lovers.  In fact, we welcome writers - both published and not, accomplished and budding - at the Library all the time.

TypewriterSo, come on!  Get out that pen (or keyboard) and join a friendly community of writers (and writer wannabes) at NPL!
If you're still shy, start with our extensive collection of books on authorship, which is expanding all the time.  Read up on novel writing, creative nonfiction writing, screenwriting, and even journaling.  Check out a copy of the Writer's Market once you're ready to start the publishing process.
If you're ready to meet other scribblers, come to a session of Write On! at Nichols Library on Wednesday evenings.  These are informal workshops in a group setting which are mercifully judgment-free.  The next meeting is Wednesday, September 25 at 7:00 pm (no registration required).  Keep an eye on our events calendar for future dates.Notepad
If you're finally feeling confident - and are ready for some critique - join the Naperville Writers Group at North Central College every Wednesday evening.  This 26-year-old writer's workshop welcomes a lively group of west suburban writers, some of whom have taken off with the group's support to achieve great success.  Go to enjoy the camaraderie and come back out bursting with ideas.  Meet members at 95th Street Library on Saturday, October 5 at 1:00 pm (no registration required) as they present the latest edition of their literary magazine, Rivulets.
Or, as always, just come on in and talk to your friendly NPL public services staff.  We probably have more in common than you think!
