Lego Mindstorms Battle Bots (95th)

Friday, July 31, 2015 at 3:00 PM -- 95th Street Library
Teens will compete in teams to build and program Mindstorms EV3 and NXT 2.0 robots that are prepared for battle. The bots will then duke it out in the arena and attempt to push their opponent out of the ring. The last robot standing will be declared the winner.

Family storytime (NSL)

This 30-minute program of stories, songs and more fun activities is for children of all ages. In addition, strategies also will be presented to enhance early learning opportunities at home. At least one parent or adult caregiver is required to accompany children.

Twirling and tweeting robotics (95th)

This program will spark creativity as children can design and program robotic birds that sing and dance. Learners can utilize their critical thinking skills to build robots out of LEGOs and program them using WeDo software. Each group will be challenged to put their STEM skills to the test, redesigning their robots to react and move differently. This program is presented in partnership with Sylvan Learning of Naperville/Woodridge.

Stitching in the stacks(NSL)

Stitch with the library's community knit, crochet and needlecraft club. Crafters can share tips and ideas as well as showcase their latest project or ask for help on a project they may be struggling to complete. Along with good company, conversation and refreshments, attendees will learn about charity projects, share ideas and patterns or swap materials. Books on knitting, crocheting and needlecrafts will be available. All skill levels may attend.

Video Creation For Kids (95th)

Budding filmmakers can make their own movies for fun with friends or for a school project. They can learn how to record and edit as well as add music, sound effects and titles to their movie clips using the Idea Lab's high-definition camcorder and editing software called iMovie. For students in 3rd through 5th grades. Program requires advanced registration and is limited to 12 participants.

Racing with robotics (95th)

Children can utilize their critical thinking skills to build robots out of LEGOs and program them using WeDo software to move, react and make sounds. Children also will create cars that actually zip through an interactive, robotic finish line. This robotics class will enhance communication, collaborative and problem-solving skills.

3-D Software & Printing For Adults (95th)

Adults can learn how to design a three-dimensional object using the software 123D and find out how to print the object using the library?'s 3-D printer. Program requires advanced registration with a fee.

College application and essay writing seminar (95th)

Applying for college can be a daunting task, but help is available at the library. C2 Education will discuss the ins and out of college applications, including tips on writing the essay. Students also will learn how to best show off their academic achievements and activities. The seminar is geared for high school students in 10th through 12th grades and their parents.
