ENGLISH CONVERSATION GROUPS FOR ESL STUDENTS

Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 10:00 AM -- Naper Boulevard Library
These groups are designed to give English-as-a-Second-Language students a chance to practice their skills in a relaxed and comfortable environment. There is no fee for attending these classes, and one does not have to attend every session. Patrons are invited to attend whenever they can. All adult learners are welcome.

Picnic on the riverwalk

Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 11:30 AM -- Nichols Library
The library?'s Children?'s Services staff will present this popular Riverwalk program, which will include stories, songs and a puppet show. Participants can bring a meal or snack. In the event of inclement weather, the program will take place in the Community Room of Nichols Library.

ATTENTION! Students entering 1st through 5th grades, do you want to spend time reading aloud with an older student? This non-tutoring program is intended to provide children with an opportunity to spend time reading aloud with a student volunteer. Come to the library at one of the times listed below. Children will be paired with a volunteer entering 6th through 12th grades and will spend the one-hour session taking turns reading aloud. Depending on attendance, a child may be placed in a group.

Monthly Teen Book Giveaway (NSL)

Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 3:00 PM -- 95th Street Library
Love reading and reviewing books? Teens can stop by the upper level Adult Services desk on the last Wednesday of each month to grab a soon-to-be-released and popular young adult book. Participants can take the book home, add it to their collection and write a review for each book. The library will publish reviewers?' comments on its website.

*Secrets of a Yale Grad (NIC)

A graduate of Yale University will discuss how he got into his dream school.He will touch on the topics of coursework rigor, including GPA, SAT, ACT, recommendations, interviews and college essays. *Program requires advanced registration. Baby Play Date (NBL)

Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 9:30 AM -- Naper Boulevard Library
Parents can stroll into the library with their baby for a fun play date. This program will include 20 minutes of stories, songs and bounces and 10 minutes of exploratory play. The program is the perfect opportunity for children to share some interactive time with their caregivers and meet new friends. The program is for infants to 23-month-olds and their caregivers.

Family Storytime (NBL)

This 30-minute program of stories, songs and more is for children of all ages. In addition, strategies will be presented to enhance early learning opportunities right in your home! At least one parent or adult caregiver is required to accompany children to these fun filled programs.
