CS First Club: Coding Series (95th)

CS First is an entry-level computer science program created by Google. It aims to empower children to create with technology and tell their own stories through hands-on computer programming activities. Children in 4th through 6th grades can learn and improve problem-solving and logic proficiencies as they study the visual programming language Scratch. *Program requires advanced registration, and participants must attend the entire series of four sessions.

Riveting Rio De Janeiro (95th)

Explore the naturally beautiful metropolis and captivating city of Rio de Janeiro with world traveler, photo journalist and travel columnist Bill Helmuth. As director of international sales for Time Life Books, Helmuth traveled to over a hundred countries giving him an opportunity to present on some of his most exciting journeys. See the charms of Copacabana Beach, take a breathtaking cable car ride up Sugarloaf Mountain to get an incredible view of the city, including Christ the Redeemer Statue. Finally travel to see the spectacular Iguazu Water Falls whose river flows over the amazing Itaipu Hydroelectric Dam.

Students entering kindergarten through 5th grade can practice reading, listening to and discussing books in a fun and relaxed atmosphere with a teen volunteer this summer. Depending on attendance, readers may be placed in a group. Children may bring a book or choose one from the library. All participants must be independent readers. Those arriving more than 10 minutes late cannot be guaranteed placement with a partner.

The Power Of Play (NBL)

Adult and child interactive play is critical to language development. Caregivers are invited to the library to play with their child at stations of fun and games, including manipulates, board games and puzzles, as well as items for imaginative play and gross motor activity. For infants through 5th grade with a caregiver. This is a drop-in program with a room limit of 30.

Family Storytime (95th)

This 30-minute program of stories, songs and other activities is for children of all ages. In addition, staff members will present strategies to enhance early learning opportunities at home. At least one parent or adult caregiver is required to accompany children to these fun-filled programs.

'Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire' (PG-13) (NBL)

Potter-Mania is back at the library this summer with a showing of the fourth "Harry Potter" film, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." Watch Harry compete in the Triwizard Tournament and get excited for all the new Harry Potter fun to come. For Teens in 6th through 12th grades.

Harry Potter Book Release Party

Muggles of all ages can celebrate the midnight book release of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts I & II" at Nichols Library. In conjunction with other Potter-themed celebrations throughout downtown Naperville, Nichols Library will be open from 9 a.m. Saturday, July 30 through 12:30 a.m. Sunday, July 31 in anticipation of the book's release at midnight so fans can pick up their copy. The library will host many magical events throughout the day and night (see schedule of events below). From 6 p.m. to midnight, attendees can win raffle prizes every hour - must be present to win.
