Students entering 1st through 5th grades can spend time reading aloud with an older student. This non-tutoring program is intended to provide students an opportunity to spend enjoyable time reading aloud with a student volunteer. Students will be paired with a volunteer entering 6th through 12th grades and spend the one-hour session taking turns reading aloud. Depending on attendance, participants may be placed in a group.

Racing with robotics (NIC)

Tuesday, July 07, 2015 at 1:30 PM -- Nichols Library
Children can utilize their critical thinking skills to build robots out of LEGOs and program them using WeDo software to move, react and make sounds. Children also will create cars that actually zip through an interactive, robotic finish line. This robotics class will enhance communication, collaborative and problem-solving skills.

Evening on The Riverwalk (NIC)

Staff will present this popular Riverwalk program, which will include stories, songs and a puppet show. Participants can bring a meal or snack. In the event of inclement weather, the program will take place in the Community Room of Nichols Library.

Everyday Heroes Contest!

Wednesday, July 08, 2015 at 9:00 AM -- All Libraries
Children can nominate someone who has been a hero in their life, giving them the recognition they deserve. In a short, one-page essay, children can share the reasons why their hero deserves to win and how they have made a difference in their life. Include at least one photo to accompany the nomination. The winner will receive a certificate of recognition, and they will be highlighted on the library?'s website and social media channels. Participants can drop their submissions off at any children?'s desk by July 15.
