Adult and child interactive play is critical to language development. Families can have fun and play with their children at stations that include manipulatives, board games and puzzles as well as items for imaginative play and gross motor activity.

Spend a pleasant afternoon indoors relaxing and watching a new or classic movie while enjoying delicious popcorn. Check the library's website and social media channels for movie selections.

Students entering 1st through 5th grades can spend time reading aloud with an older student. This non-tutoring program is intended to provide students an opportunity to spend enjoyable time reading aloud with a student volunteer. Students will be paired with a volunteer entering 6th through 12th grades and spend the one-hour session taking turns reading aloud. Depending on attendance, participants may be placed in a group.

Everyday Heroes Contest!

Children can nominate someone who has been a hero in their life, giving them the recognition they deserve. In a short, one-page essay, children can share the reasons why their hero deserves to win and how they have made a difference in their life. Include at least one photo to accompany the nomination. The winner will receive a certificate of recognition, and they will be highlighted on the library?'s website and social media channels. Participants can drop their submissions off at any children?'s desk by July 15.

Call all superheroes, rock out with Mr. Dave (NIC)

Tiny crusaders can don their capes and superhero costumes while jamming with musician Mr. Dave, who will present a toe-tapping show featuring classic children?'s songs, mainstream favorites and original tunes. This 50-miniute show is designed to keep kids moving and shaking. Costumes are encouraged! This program will be presented twice, and the second program will be a repeat of the first.

Family storytime (NSL)

This 30-minute program of stories, songs and more fun activities is for children of all ages. In addition, strategies also will be presented to enhance early learning opportunities at home. At least one parent or adult caregiver is required to accompany children.

Bark for books (NBL)

Therapy dogs are back this summer and waiting to hear a good story. Kids are invited to read with a therapy dog team from the PAWSitive Therapy Troupe or Naperville Area Humane Society?'s Paws for Tales. Tickets will be available starting at 11 a.m. the morning of the program. For children entering 1st through 5th grades.
