Teen Events for the Month of June

Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 1:00 PM -- Nichols Library
ATTENTION! Students entering 1st through 5th grades, do you want to spend time reading aloud with an older student? This non-tutoring program is intended to provide children with an opportunity to spend time reading aloud with a student volunteer. Come to the library at one of the times listed below. Children will be paired with a volunteer entering 6th through 12th grades and will spend the one-hour session taking turns reading aloud. Depending on attendance, a child may be placed in a group.

*NXT 2.0 Programming: Zombie Encounter Challenge (NIC)

Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 2:00 PM -- Nichols Library
Teams will compete to build and program a LEGO Mindstorms robot that will navigate a zombie-filled terrain and rescue stranded humans. The team that can avoid the zombies and save the most humans the fastest will rule the undead. After the challenge, teens can program LEGO WeDos or play with a MaKey MaKey invention kit to control a video game with Play-Doh or play a piano made of bananas. * Program requires advanced registration and is limited to 10 teen participants.

Zombie Parts (NSL)

DO-IT-YOURSELF

Fans of the undead can make a zombie eyeball pendant or brain medallion to fasten to a necklace, bracelet or carry it around to gross out friends.

Music Creation Using GarageBand (NSL)

Music lovers can create ringtones for their phone. They can play, mix and record songs using GarageBand and then share the tunes with friends.

T-Shirt Book Tote (NIC)

DO-IT-YOURSELF

Teens can bring one or two old T-shirts and learn how to turn them into a snazzy book tote for all their library books. Fabric markers will be available to decorate the bags.

Gathering of Gamers (NSL)

Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 2:00 PM -- 95th Street Library
Gamers can round up their friends, bring their favorite board or card games to the library and try to get on the library?'s leaderboard during this afternoon of fun. Snacks will be provided.
