Oliver Julian “Judd” Kendall, son of Francis A. Kendall, Mayor of Naperville, served as First Lieutenant in World War I as part of the American Expeditionary Force in 1st Engineers, 1st Division. He was taken prisoner by the Germans May 25, 1918 as American forces planned to capture Cantigny, France. He died, not revealing the map of attack plans, earning him the distinction of being Naperville’s “Nathan Hale.” Kendall Park and Oliver Julian Kendall Elementary School are named after him.
