Family Storytime (NIC)

This 30-minute program of stories, songs and more fun activities is for children of all ages. In addition, strategies also will be presented to enhance early learning opportunities at home. At least one parent or adult caregiver is required to accompany children.

Heartfelt handmade gifts (NIC)

Student crafters can learn how to make two personalized crafts for holiday gift giving. Library staff will be available to assist participants in creating a handcrafted wallet and keychain to take home.

Winter Family Reading Program

Saturday, December 06, 2014 at 9:00 AM -- All Libraries
Families with children in 5th grade and even babies can sign up starting Monday, Dec. 1. Children will earn prizes and coupons for reading together as a family and doing other family-fun activities. All participants will be entered into drawings to win Chicago Wolves Hockey tickets and a grand prize.

3rd Annual Gingerbread house display (drop off)

Saturday, December 06, 2014 at 9:00 AM -- All Libraries
Make and decorate a gingerbread house as a family activity. Creators can drop off their gingerbread house at any children's department before 4 p.m. Dec. 6. Each building will display the houses in the children?'s department through Dec. 13 for the public to admire and choose their favorites. Ribbons will be awarded to all entries. Entries must be picked up on Dec. 13.

3-D Holiday Ornaments for Kids (95th)

Holiday enthusiasts can learn how to design a three-dimensional snowflake or snowman using 123-D, 3-D software and Tinkercad. Creations can be printed with the library's 3-D printer. For children in 3rd through 6th grades.
Program requires advanced registration.

Juggling funny stories (NIC)

Celebrate the start of the Winter Family Reading Program with presenter Chris Fascione as he brings children's stories to life. Laughter abounds as Fascione creates colorful characters through his unique combination of acting, storytelling, comedy and juggling. His award-winning, participatory program is designed to bring out the kid in everyone, while promoting reading, literacy and the love of books.

Sensory storytime (NIC)

The whole family is invited to a 30-minute program of books, songs and fun for children with special needs. All abilities are welcome with an adult caregiver. Inquire at any children's services desk for more information. The program will take place on the first Saturday of each month.
