ATTENTION! Students entering 1st through 5th grades, do you want to spend time reading aloud with an older student? This non-tutoring program is intended to provide children with an opportunity to spend time reading aloud with a student volunteer. Come to the library at one of the times listed below. Children will be paired with a volunteer entering 6th through 12th grades and will spend the one-hour session taking turns reading aloud. Depending on attendance, a child may be placed in a group.

*Readers' Theatre Workshop (NSL)

Monday, July 07, 2014 at 2:00 PM -- 95th Street Library
Readers?' Theatre is an exciting and fun way to share stories. Attendees can learn story-telling techniques. No acting skills are required, and all reading abilities are welcome. During the workshop, participants will develop and practice a program that they will present to families and friends during the last 15 minutes of the program. For children in 3rd through 5th grades. *Program requires advanced registration and is limited to 12 children.

Fermilab Science Adventures (NBL): Light and Color

Monday, July 07, 2014 at 4:00 PM -- Naper Boulevard Library
Fermilab scientists will return to the library this summer for some exciting science presentations. The engaging programs will include demonstrations and activities to help students develop a deeper understanding of their world. For children in 3rd through 5th grades. These programs are presented in partnership with Fermilab.

This 30-minute program of stories, songs and more is for children of all ages. In addition, strategies will be presented to enhance early learning opportunities right in your home! At least one parent or adult caregiver is required to accompany children to these fun filled programs.

*Drive-In Movie (NIC)

Tuesday, July 08, 2014 at 3:00 PM -- Nichols Library
Summer is the perfect time for a drive-in movie. Children can decorate their own cars from cardboard boxes and then park in designated spaces in front of the screen to watch a short movie. For children ages 5 to 7. *Program requires advanced registration and is limited to 20 children.
