Library card gets customers deals around town

Show Us Your Library Card, Naperville

Show UsAs a library card is the gateway to entertainment and educational resources, Naperville Public Library wants its customers to proudly show off their card and celebrate their love to read, innovate and create.

Throughout September, which also is Library Card Sign-up Month, the library will host its Show Us Your Library Card, Naperville campaign. Starting Sept. 1, every time customers show their library card at the time of purchase, a participating area business will reward them with a discount or giveaway, such as a percentage off a purchase or a buy one, get one free coupon. The campaign, which will end Sept. 30, features about 90 businesses, including retail shops, salon services, restaurants and recreation-focused establishments.

“We have done this in the past, and it was very successful for both the library and the participating businesses,” Executive Director Julie Rothenfluh said. “Our card registration has decreased somewhat lately, and this is a very visible way to demonstrate that there is value to having a library card.”

Rothenfluh hopes new and current library customers also check out the new library services and equipment they can use just by owning a library card.

“We hope to encourage people to visit us who may not have been to the library in a while so they can see the many resources and services we have to offer – from Wi-Fi in all of our buildings to our Idea Lab at 95th Street to in-home access to our online databases and the convenience of ‘home shopping,’ searching our catalog from the comfort of home and placing holds on the items you want to pick up from the location most convenient to you.”

Each participating business will have their discount or special offer displayed, so customers remember to show their card. Offers cannot be combined with any other coupons, discounts, promotions, specials or purchase of gift cards. For more information and a list of participating businesses, go to
