Naperville Public Library Earns 2nd Award – Named to Tribune’s Top Workplaces List
The Chicago Tribune has named the Naperville Public Library to its 2012 Top 100 Workplace list. The ranking was determined by employee engagement surveys of 254 companies in the Chicago area that employ more than 171,000 people.
“The most important asset we offer the public is the expertise and skill of our staff. Even with recent belt-tightening, we’ve maintained high staff morale. Their enthusiasm for public service was clearly reflected in this award,” explains John Spears, Executive Director, Naperville Public Library.
The Tribune used an independent workplace survey company to establish the Top 100 Workplace list. This firm asked Library employees to complete an online survey that used a seven-point scale and measured their feelings toward their workplace. The Library staff’s enthusiastic response earned the Naperville Public Library a rank of 18 out of 35 companies in the midsize category (companies with 250 to 999 employees).
This is the second award the Naperville Public Library has earned within the past seven days. Last week it was named a 5 Star Library by Library Journal, a national professional library publication. The measurement tool known as the Index of Public Library Service compares 7,570 U.S. public libraries on the quantities of services they deliver. The index uses data from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) for 2010 and is sponsored by Baker & Taylor’s Bibliostat Collect and Connect.
