Poetry Treasure Hunt

Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 1:00 PM -- Nichols Library
Throughout April, celebrate National Poetry Month with a Poetry Treasure Hunt at the library. Children of all ages can search for hidden poems throughout the library anytime during the month of April. Pick up a form at the children's reference desk containing 10 clues, and then it's off to look high and low throughout the children's department for the 10 corresponding poems. Each library will have its own treasure hunt.

ACT KAPLAN practice test (NIC)

Getting ready for college - ACT practice test
A practice test is crucial to ward off those test-day jitters. Test takers can find out how they will score on the real thing. Kaplan will provide proctored tests, and individuals should bring No. 2 pencils, an approved calculator and a healthy snack. The exams will begin promptly at the scheduled time, and no one will be admitted once the exam has started.

Lapsit Storytime (NIC)

Monday, April 20, 2015 at 9:30 AM -- Nichols Library
An introduction to storytime for infants to 23-month-olds. This 20-minute interactive program will include stories, songs and fingerplays. Attendees will have time after the program to share board books and other featured titles with their little ones. An adult caregiver must attend with each child. The only exception is in the case of twins.

Preschool for 3s, 4s & 5s (NIC)

Monday, April 20, 2015 at 9:30 AM -- Nichols Library
This 30-minute independent storytime experience is for 3 to 5-year-olds only. No younger or older siblings will be allowed.

Family Storytime (NIC)

Monday, April 20, 2015 at 10:30 AM -- Nichols Library
This 30-minute program of stories, songs and more fun activities is for children of all ages. In addition, strategies also will be presented to enhance early learning opportunities at home. At least one parent or adult caregiver is required to accompany children.

The ABCs of buying a home (NIC)

Monday, April 20, 2015 at 6:30 PM -- Nichols Library
Monika Tkaczyck, mortgage consultant from 1st Advantage Mortgage, will provide an excellent overview of the home-buying process. The topics will include household budgeting, building credit, tips on improving credit scores, home loan financing options and down payment assistance programs. Learn about the importance of selecting the right team of a realtor, inspector, attorney and lender as well as the roles they play in the process, including home search, contract negotiation and closing.
