Invasive Plants and Pests

May is "Invasive Species Awareness Month" and Tricia Bethke from the Morton Arboretum will explain how to identify invasive plant and insect species that are spreading through landscapes in DuPage County. This program will also provide instruction on the best methods for removal of these invaders.

Puppet Palooza(NIC)

Come to a puppet event of extraordinary proportions! Three short fun-filled puppet plays will be presented. Children will be invited to sing and dance during intermissions. Each child will have an opportunity to make a puppet craft.

A volunteer from the Fox Valley Genealogical Society will be available in the adult services department to help any interested individuals who wish to obtain assistance either to get started on a genealogy project or to complete difficult genealogical research challenges.

Do-It-Yourself Spa Products (NIC)

Make body products like sugar scrub and milk bath with supplies straight from the kitchen cupboard. Spa day enthusiasts can learn about the properties of essential oils that personalize spa creations. Participants should bring a four-ounce jar to contain their homemade spa product, which would make a great Mother's Day gift.

Music and Movement(NIC)

Children ages 3 to 5 years old and their parent or caregiver will explore basic musical concepts using interactive methods. This program introduces children to music through movement and singing as well as rhythmic and listening activities. Music will be brought to life through the use of books, props, songs and basic musical instruments in an active and engaging way. Program is limited to 30 children who should be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Genealogy Workshop: Genealogy Road Trip Tips (NIC)

Doreen Marvin of Fox Valley Genealogical Society will provide guidance for anyone thinking about heading off to ancestral lands or investigating regional archives as part of their genealogy research. After the discussion, genealogy hobbyists can share research stories and questions with like-minded enthusiasts. Participants can bring laptops and use the library genealogy databases.
