This 30-minute program of stories, songs and more is for children of all ages. In addition, strategies will be presented to enhance early learning opportunities right in your home! At least one parent or adult caregiver is required to accompany children to these fun filled programs.

ATTENTION! Students entering 1st through 5th grades, do you want to spend time reading aloud with an older student? This non-tutoring program is intended to provide children with an opportunity to spend time reading aloud with a student volunteer. Come to the library at one of the times listed below. Children will be paired with a volunteer entering 6th through 12th grades and will spend the one-hour session taking turns reading aloud. Depending on attendance, a child may be placed in a group.
Chess Club (NIC)Friday, August 01, 2014 at 3:00 PM -- Nichols Library
Chess enthusiasts and novices can challenge opponents and learn new moves. All skill levels are welcome, and chess mentors will be available to teach beginners and answer questions. Participants can bring their own chess set or use one of the library?'s sets.
Baby Play Date (NIC)Monday, August 04, 2014 at 9:30 AM -- Nichols Library
Parents can stroll into the library with their baby for a fun play date. This program will include 20 minutes of stories, songs and bounces and 10 minutes of exploratory play. The program is the perfect opportunity for children to share some interactive time with their caregivers and meet new friends. The program is for infants to 23-month-olds and their caregivers.
Crazy Contraptions: Paper Boomerangs (NIC)Tuesday, August 05, 2014 at 1:30 PM -- Nichols Library
Using special paper to make a boomerang, teens can make a flying craft that will really spin right back to them. Individuals will test the boomerangs and learn throwing techniques.
Evening on the riverwalkTuesday, August 05, 2014 at 7:00 PM -- Nichols Library
The library?'s Children?'s Services staff will present this popular Riverwalk program, which will include stories, songs and a puppet show. Participants can bring a meal or snack. In the event of inclement weather, the program will take place in the Community Room of Nichols Library.
