Summer Reading Program Volunteering Opportunities

Requirements to Volunteer 

  • Each Summer Reading Program volunteers must present a current Naperville Public Library Card at the time of sign up.
  • Be entering 6th through 12th grades. 
  • Volunteer for at minimum of 6 of the 8 weeks of the program 
  • Attend Orientation! Orientation will highlight program changes and explain your responsibilities as a Summer Reading Program volunteer. 


Registration Information 

  • Come with all your requirements! Register at the Library where you plan to volunteer.
  • Volunteers must show their own current Naperville Public Library card. 
  • Bring a completed Agreement Form signed by you and a parent or guardian. 
  • Know your summer schedule. 
  • Volunteer sign-up begins Saturday, May 11 at 1:00 p.m. and continues until all slots are filled.

  • April 12: Agreement Form and information posted in the volunteer section of the Naperville Public Library web site.
  • May 11: Volunteer sign-up begins at 1:00 p.m. and continues until all slots are filled.
  • May 12: Sign up for available time slots at all three Library locations in either the Children’s or Adult/Teen Services Departments. 
  • Monday, June 3 through Sunday, July 28 -- Summer Reading Program 

Types of Volunteering Opportunities Available

STARS Children's

STARS Children’s (June 3 – July 28, 2013) 

  • Register student participants birth through 5th grade in the Children’s Department 
  • Volunteer for a 2-hour shift each week 
  • Collect and distribute reading logs and prizes 

 

TEEN SRP

Teen SRP (June 3 – July 28, 2013) 

  • Register student participants in the Adult/Teen Services Department 
  • Volunteer for a 2-hour shift each week 
  • Collect and distribute reading logs and prizes 

 

Read2gether

Read2gether (June 3 – July 26, 2013) 

  • Paired with a student or students entering 1st through 5th grade
  • Volunteer for a 1-hour shift each week
  • Choose a book together and alternate reading 

 

 

SUBSTITUTES: If you cannot participate for at least 6 of the 8 weeks, you may still sign up to be a substitute. Volunteers who want additional volunteer hours may also sign up. Tell the staff person at the registration table that you would like to be a substitute. Orientation is required for substitutes.

Verification of Volunteer Hours
Summer Reading Program volunteers will receive a letter on Naperville Public Library stationery approximately four (4) weeks after the program concludes that lists the total number of volunteer hours earned.  If a volunteer needs to have a school-issued form completed to verify volunteer hours earned, he/she must contact Pat Larson, Human Resources Assistant Volunteers, at: plarson@naperville-lib.org
*Verification of SRP volunteer hours is not sent to the volunteer’s school without an official email request from the volunteer at the end of the program.
