Attendees can create monsters from felt and use conductive thread to sew in batteries, LED lights and LilyTiny microcontrollers to give them glowing eyes, beating hearts and other cool features. *Program requires advanced registration and is limited to 10 teen participants.

ATTENTION! Students entering 1st through 5th grades, do you want to spend time reading aloud with an older student? This non-tutoring program is intended to provide children with an opportunity to spend time reading aloud with a student volunteer. Come to the library at one of the times listed below. Children will be paired with a volunteer entering 6th through 12th grades and will spend the one-hour session taking turns reading aloud. Depending on attendance, a child may be placed in a group.

Chess Club (NIC)

Chess enthusiasts and novices can challenge opponents and learn new moves. All skill levels are welcome, and chess mentors will be available to teach beginners and answer questions. Participants can bring their own chess set or use one of the library?'s sets.

ACT Kaplan Practice Tests (NSL)

Saturday, August 02, 2014 at 12:30 PM -- 95th Street Library
A practice test is crucial to ward off those test-day jitters. Kaplan will provide proctored tests to help students practice for the real exam. Participants should bring No. 2 pencils, an approved calculator and a healthy snack. The exams will begin promptly at the scheduled time, and no one will be admitted once the exam has started. The program is for teens in 9th through 12th grades. *Program requires advanced registration. This program is presented in partnership with Kaplan.
