Anime Club (NBL)

Monday, January 12, 2015 at 4:00 PM -- Naper Boulevard Library
Come to the library each month to watch anime, draw manga, talk about different aspects of Japanese pop culture and meet other otaku.

Arduino Workshops(NIC)

Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 4:30 PM -- Nichols Library
Arduino Workshops: Motor Projects - Use code to control both hobby and servo motors.
Interested in coding and electronics but don't know where to start? Arduino microcontroller boards can be easily programmed using a variant of the c programming language. They receive inputs from a variety of switches or sensors to control lights, motors or other outputs. Arduino projects can be as simple as a light blinking on and off or as complex as a robot or smart thermostat. During these workshops, individuals can write and compile code to bring a variety of projects to life using the arduino uno and various electronic components.

Workshops limited to teens in 6th through 12th grades. No prior electronics or programming experience is required.

Open Mic Night(NIC)

Friday, January 16, 2015 at 6:00 PM -- Nichols Library
Teens should bring their own props and equipment to showcase their talents of poetry reading, storytelling, comedic performance, dancing, singing and playing an instrument. Or attendees can come for an evening of entertainment and just watch the program. A microphone and refreshments will be provided.

Rubber Band-Powered Helicopters(NIC)

Monday, January 19, 2015 at 2:00 PM -- Nichols Library

Crazy Contraptions: Rubber Band-Powered Helicopters.
Students can celebrate the day off from school by making a rubber band-powered helicopter. Attendees can build them and then test them for hang time, flight height and distance traveled.

Boy Scout Reading Merit Badge Program(NSL)

Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 6:00 PM -- 95th Street Library
Boy scouts of America can earn their merit badge for reading and learn more about the services the library offers. They can get a jump on their requirements by learning to use the online catalog, then locating and selecting books from a variety of genres. A merit badge counselor from the participant?'s troop is welcome to sign off on the individual's badge, or the library will have a staff member available who can sign off, too.

Changes to the SAT(NIC)

Early this year, the College Board announced the details of a massive redesign of the SAT. The updated SAT will feature significant changes designed to focus on a deeper understanding of the skills and knowledge necessary for college and career readiness. Students graduating in 2017 and after will benefit from this seminar as the new test rolls out in spring 2016.

Wii Gaming(NSL)

Gamers can bust out their mad Wiigaming skills at the library as many video games will be available to play. Players can bring their friends and challenge them to a game of guitar hero. Snacks will be provided.
