Do I Qualify?
If you are not already on a government sponsored health plan (e.g. Medicare) then you can shop for coverage at the health care marketplaces being established in the state.

How do I Enroll?
 You have different options for enrolling.  (Process takes about 30-45 minutes)

  • Over the telephone:
    National Marketplace Toll-Free Call Center for Federally Facilitated and State-Parnership Marketplaces
    1-800-318-2596 (TTY 1-855-899-4325).
    Customer service representatives available 24-7 in English and Spanish
    There is also a Language line for 150 additional languages.
  • Online: 
    1)  Go to an online marketplace (https://www.healthcare.gov/ or Cuidadodesalud.gov for Spanish)
    2)  Create an account
    3)  Apply
    4)  Pick a Plan
    5)  Enroll


Is a Subsidy Available?
There is a subsidy available based on income.  Check the online subsidy calculator: http://kff.org/interactive/subsidy-calculator

What types of plans are offered?
The Marketplace will offer four categories of plans, plus a catastrophic plan:

  • Bronze – Covers 60% of essential health benefits, with out of pocket limit to HSA (Health Savings Account) current law limit ($5,950 individuals and $11,900 for families)
  • Silver – Covers 70% of essential health benefits, with HSA limits
  • Gold – Covers 80% of essential health benefits, with HSA limits
  • Platinum – Covers 90% of essential health benefits
  • Catastrophic Plan – Available up to age 30


What if I choose NOT to have coverage?
If an individual does not have coverage in 2014, a penalty fee will be assessed:

  • $95/adult; $47.50/child or 1% of income, whichever is higher ($285/family max). 
  • The penalty increases in subsequent years.
