I. PURPOSE To create a comfortable, healthy and clean environment for both the public and Library employees, the use of tobacco in any form is strictly prohibited in the Library. II. SCOPE Includes all interior spaces of the Library’s facilities, including access points of the buildings. III. PROVISIONS A. The Library prohibits smoking and the carrying of lighted smoking materials in all library facilities and vehicles, and within 30 feet of entrances, exits, air intakes, or designated outdoor eating areas. Smoking is permitted outdoors in designated areas only. 1. The use of smokeless tobacco is prohibited in all library facilities and vehicles. 2. The Library will state on all applications for employment and for the use of facilities that the Library maintains smoke and tobacco-free environments. B. Enforcement 1. All staff, persons in charge and facility monitors will be asked to advise smokers and tobacco users of the Library’s policy stated above, pointing to the proper signage whenever possible. 2. Persons failing to refrain from the use of materials after being advised of the Library’s policy will be asked to leave the library for the remainder of the business day. Any person in charge, or the facility monitors, may enforce this policy. 3. Habitual offenders may be banned from the Library for an extended period.
