Become a Volunteer (Adults and Teens)

We appreciate and value the time and effort given by our volunteers. Over the past year, our volunteers supported our commitment to excellence by contributing over 10,000 hours of time to the Library.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Volunteers must be in 9th grade or above.
  • All volunteers over the age of 18 must complete a background check
  • Volunteers must successfully complete a volunteer application.
  • Volunteer opportunities do not require a current Naperville Public Library card.

The Library strives to place every applicant; however, volunteer opportunities are limited. Volunteers will be contacted as opportunities become available and scheduled as needed. Please ensure that your contact email stays up to date.

Access the general application to apply.

Current Volunteers

If you have already setup your online volunteer account, you can:

Join the Teen Advisory Group (TAG)

TAG is a group of teens in Grades 6 through 12 who volunteer to work together with teen services librarians to make Naperville Public Library an inclusive and welcoming place for teens.

Our TAG volunteers will:

  • Earn community service hours for each meeting they attend.
  • Develop leadership skills and learn how to work together to accomplish tasks and projects.
  • Learn how the Library works to fulfill the needs of a diverse community.
  • Provide input on various topics, like:
    • What activities for teens are important for the Library to offer.
    • What books, music, and games are essential for serving teens.
    • Suggestions for improving and maintaining our Teen Spaces.
  • Meet other teens in their community and share their love of reading, gaming, and creating with their peers.

Interested in joining? Our TAG meets once a month for two hours and rotates between each of the three Naperville Public Library locations.

Please email the teen librarians for more information on how to attend.
