1. How do I renew items?

You can renew items in the following ways:

• Use My Account on the catalog
• Text renewals (Shoutbomb)
• Call or visit any library location
• Use our Mobile App

2. Where can I return items?

Return items to any Naperville Public Library location or book drop. Book drops at all three Library locations are available 24 hours a day, including holidays.

3. Does Naperville Public Library charge overdue fines?

No, as of June 1, 2021, Naperville Public Library is no longer charging fines for overdue items. Those who do not return materials on time will have their accounts locked after seven days rather than accruing fines. Once an overdue item is returned, the account will be unlocked. 

4. What if I do not return an item on time?

Refer to our list of loan periods. At seven days overdue, your account will be locked. No checkout, renewal, holds, or use of digital services may occur.

5. What is the difference between a fine and a fee?

The Library does not charge overdue fines, which is the amount charged for each day an item is overdue. Fees are still collected for items that are 45 days or more overdue, lost, or damaged.

6. What communication will I receive about my account?

The following notices are sent via email:

• A courtesy notice will be sent two days before the due date.
• A 1st overdue notice will be sent one day after the due date.
• A 2nd overdue notice will be sent five days after the due date.
• A 3rd overdue notice and notification that your account has been locked will be sent seven days after the due date.
• A 4th overdue notice will be sent three weeks after the due date.
• Once an item is 45 days overdue, a notice that your account has been charged will be sent, and a billed replacement fee will be added to the account.

7. How can I pay my fees?

In-Person

Pay by cash, check or credit card at any of our buildings during regular operating hours.

Online

Log into My Account and use your credit card to pay online.

• Minimum payment of $1
• Payments immediately applied to your Library account

8. What is a vacation loan?

If you will be going out of town for an extended amount of time, ask a customer service staff member for a vacation loan. The normal loan period for any item may be doubled except for those with holds or on an interlibrary loan.

9. What if I damage or lose my library materials?

Customers are still responsible to pay a fee for damaged or lost materials.

10. What if I find my lost material that has already been paid for?

Refunds will be issued up to 119 days past an item’s due date. Items borrowed through Interlibrary Loan may not be eligible for refunds.
